This requires local authorities to establish and maintain a register of people interested in building their own home. Local Authorities will then be asked to use this information to produce planning policy that helps meet the demand - so it is IMPERATIVE that you join the register if you are looking to build your own home. You need to join the register of the area you wish to build in. A second raft of regulations will ask LA s to actually provide the plots, but in the interim the register will help force decision makers to prioritise self build and accommodate it within policy and decisions.
