4 2. Introduction of the Project / Background Information 2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent Trisha Speciality Chemical Pvt. Ltd. (TSCPL) proposes to increase the capacity of plant from 3600 MT per year to 9000 MT per year (25 ton/day) for manufacturing Sulphonated Naphthalene Formaldehyde (SNF) by installing one additional neutralization vessel and Sulphonator. 1. The demand of SNF is fluctuating and during monsoon demand is very low as SNF is consumed mainly as Construction Chemical. In industry, SNF is used as liquid or powder Therefore it is proposed to install spray dryer to produce SNF powder by installing spray drier having capacity of 1 m3/hour solution drying. 2. Di-Octyl Sulfo Succinate sodium salt (DOSS) can be manufactured by adding one additional reactor and utilizing existing vessels. DOSS has wide application in textile and chemical industry. The Capacity of DOSS will be 3600 MT / Year (10 Ton/day). 3. Ceramic binders will be manufactured by mixing SNF, Fixative and Cardex powder. The capacity will be 2000 MT/ year (5.5 Ton/day). 4. Concrete admixture will be manufactured by mixing of SNF, Sodium lingo sulfonate, Sodium gluconate, calcium lingo sulfonate, A.O.S., Calcium chloride, NaOH, Sulphonated melamine formaldehyde and poly carboxylate ether and capacity will be 1000 MT/ year (3 Ton/day). 2.2 Nature of the Project The Proposed project is speciality chemicals manufacturing to be used in the Building Construction sector, textile sectors, ceramic industries etc. 2.3 Need of the Project and it s important to the country and or region: Main purpose of the proposed expansion is to increase production, to utilize SNF in chemicals, and produce DOSS and ceramic Binders. Also SNF is raw material for manufacture of some Binders. 1. The demand of SNF is fluctuating and during monsoon demand is very low as SNF is consumed mainly as Construction Chemical. 5 2.4 Demand Supply gap: The ample market is available and demand is not yet tapped by the supply side as the demand is newly generated for the specialty chemicals in the market for the special application like in Construction Sector, Textile sector, Ceramic Industries etc. The Construction Sector is growing at high pace and the demand of these chemicals is growing at about 20% per annum. 2.5 Employment Generation The unit will employ 3 no. of contractors and 8 to 15 no. of construction labour and installation workers during the construction phase and maximum of 18 no. of direct labours and indirect employment during the operation phase. 5

Project Description 3.1 Type of Project and interlinked and interdependent Project, if any Proposed project is manufacturing of Speciality Chemicals in addition to expansion product in Methalene di-sodium naphthalene sulfonate. 3.2 Location: The unit is, located at Kerala GIDC near Bavla Town on the National highway 8-A, and is 40 km from Ahmedabad. 7 The Lay out plan is enclosed as Annexure 1 (Figure 1: Lay Out Plan showing the plant lay out with the details) 3.3 Details of alternate site and the basis of selecting the proposed site. The Environment Clearance is obtained for Methylene Disodium Naphthalene Sulphonate product for said location. The plot no & 1016 are located in the GIDC Kerala. We are proposing the product addition in the same location. So alternative site selection criteria will not be attracted and is not exercised by Propjet Proponent. 3.4 Size of magnitude of the Operations. Three additional products are proposed in addition to an EC approved product and propose to increase the existing (liquid) product with Spray Dried Powder Product. The Product name and capacities are shown here in table 1. 8 3.5 Process Description The process description for the each product with batch size and raw materials consumption are addressed for each proposed product Manufacturing process for SNF (Sulphonated Naphthalene Formaldehyde) liquid/powder: Manufacturing process (12.5 tons batch X 2) Produce: 750 tons/month Batch Time: 35 hours Batches: 29 batch/month (1) Manufacturing process: (a) Sulphonation (11 hrs) 1. Charge naphthalene to reactor 2. Heat to melt at ~ 120 deg C 3. Add sulfuric acid slowly in 1 hour allowing max temperature to reach 130 deg C 4. Add oleum slowly in 0.5 hours allowing max temperature to reach 140 deg C 5. Maintain at deg C 6. Test sample for water solubility, Cool to 120 deg C 7. Transfer to polymerisation reactor (b) Polymerization (16.5 hrs) 1. Charge water to reactor 2. Transfer sulfonated mass to polymerization 3. Heat to maintain at ~ 90 deg C with stirring 4. Add formaldehyde slowly in 1 h and close reactor 5. Maintain for about 4 h at deg C 6. Raise temperature to 120 deg C under pressure 2 bar 7. Maintain for about 4 h at 120 deg C 8. Test sample for absence of formaldehyde / completion 9. Check load on VFD - torque > Start cooling to 90 deg C 11. Transfer polymerized mass to neutralizer (c) Neutralization (7.5 hrs) 1. Transfer polymerized mass to neutralizer 2. Neutralize with caustic soda lye to ph 7 3. Cool to 50 deg C 4. Adjust solids with Glauber salt if required 5. Filter and store in tanks before packing 8

12 5.3.2 Ceramic Binders: Manufacturing Process (5 Tons batch) Produce: 10 tons /day (Batches: 41 batch/month) Batch Time: 4 Hours/batch (1) Manufacturing process: 1. Add water 1525 kg in the reactor. 2. Add SNF 2550 kg in the reactor. 3. Add fixative kg as per required in the reactor. 4. Add dextrin powder 700 kg in the reactor. 5. Add formaldehyde 25 kg in the reactor. 6. Add caustic soda lye in the reactor to achieve the ph of 8 if required. 7. After addition of above raw materials, mix the mass about 3 hours for homogeneous mixing. 14 5.3.3 Concrete Admixtures: Manufacturing Process (5 Tons batch) Produce: 5 tons/day Batch Time: 6 Hours/day (Batches: 14 batch/month) (1) Manufacturing Process 1. Concrete admixture require different quantum of raw material addition in different composition as per requirement in different strength of concrete. 2. Typical composition is given for mixing. 3. Add SNF/SMF/PCE kg in the mixer. 4. Add water kg in the mixer. 5. Add sodium or Calcium lignosulfonate/ TBP/Calcium or Sodium Nitrite 20-10kg in the reactor. 6. Add sodium gluconate/ hydroxycarboxylic acid/ Triethanol amine kg in the reactor. 7. Add Sodium lauryl ether sulfate/calcium chloride/ Formalin / Hydrogen peroxide 5-2 kg in the reactor. 8. After addition of above raw materials, mix the mass about 5 hours for homogeneous mixing. 16 5.3.4 Di-Octyl Sulfo Succinate sodium salt (DOSS): Manufacturing Process: 7.64 tons/batch Produce: 10 tons/day (Batches: 14 batch/month) Batch Time: 22 hours/batch. (1) Manufacturing Process: The following stages are involved in manufacturing the DOSS. Esterification Neutralization Sulfitation Filtration (a) Di Octyl maleate (DOM) 1. Add Octanol in reactor and then add Maleic Anhydride. 2. Heating started up to 80 C to 90 C. 3. Start agitation & check the raw materials are melted or not. 4. After completion of melting process start agitation & increase temperature up to 150 C gradually 5. Reflux start at 100 C collect to reflux tank. 6. To find out at which time reflux completed or mass reaction completed. 7. Start vacuum at 150 C for 1 hours. 8. After completion of vacuum start cooling up to 90 C then stop cooling. 9. Washing start by using: 1. By adding kg Sulphamic acid dissolved in 250 kg of water. 2. By adding 5 kg salt dissolved in 250 kg of water. 10. Start agitation for 30 min and then stop it. 11. Settling start and will be completed within 60 min. 12. Separation of two layer of liquid completed.one is water and another one is DOM(Di Octyl maleate) 13. Separate total water in open drum and it should be approximate 200 kg. 14. To watch and check manually separation is done or not by taking solution in glass beaker. 15. After completion of separation process start cooling up to 40 to 50 C. 16. We found DOM equal to approximate 2750 kg. (b) Di-Octyl Sulfo Succinate sodium salt (DOSS) 1. DOM charged 2. Start agitation 3. Stop agitation and charge sodium bi sulphate and then start agitation 4. Heating started gradually up to 110 C 5. Reflux started 16

17 6. Stop the firing in TFH but continue the oil circulation. 7. Temperature increase up to 108 C to 112 C then exothermic reaction started. 8. To watch a point at which temperature drop 1 C means Reflux completed. 9. At this time the nature of DOSS material starts to change from liquid form to paste form. 10. At this time within a minute we add 76.4 kg octanol, condensate and water drained from reactor as well as 3061 kg of water. 11. After then color found red brown kg of STPP dissolved in 7.72 kg of water and this solution charge. 13. After addition of STPP the color of DOSS will be changed from red brown to colorless. 14. Start cooling up to room temperature. 15. Yield form 7640kg. 23 3.7 Resource Optimization/ recycling and reuse * Cooling tower blow down water will be re-used in the two areas (1) green belt (2) in process and carries with the Product. The quantity wise re-use and recycling details are shown here for your information. Wastewater Reuse, Recycling Details There is no source of effluent from process. The effluent from the Cooling Tower will be collected in catch pit. The effluent free from suspended solids after settlement will be recycled / reused in the following application: There is no generation of effluent from process. 26 4. Site Analysis 4.1 Connectivity The GIDC Kerala is located on the side of the National Highway 8-A. The nearest railway station is Ahmedabad distance about 40 km. The plot is flat terrain in the nature with no significant level changes found in the small plot area of 2605 sqm area. 4.4 Existing Land use pattern The land is of industrial use purpose. The area of the project site is 1355sqm. 4.5 Existing Infrastructure GIDC Kerala will provide the infrastructure like, approach road to the plot within the GIDC, Water supply, rain water drainage etc. Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. will provide the electricity for the unit. Adani Gas Ltd. is supplying Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as Fuel. 26

However, the nearest residential /settlement is located at 900 m on WNW direction (@300 o ), and village Zekadaa is located 1.92 km on ENE direction (@ 60 o ). 3 Connectivity Nearest Highway: National Highway 8A Nearest Road: GIDC Road Nearest Railway Station: Ahmedabad (40Km) 4 Green Belt The green belt of 400 sqm is proposed. 5 Social Infrastructure The industrial unit is located within the Kerala GIDC and hence, the social infrastructure is not available at the area. Final Recommendations Project will create revenue expected from royalty, taxes, duties and other fees to the state as well as to the central government and will attract the direct & indirect employment opportunities. The project cost for the EC obtained product is Rs crores and additional investment for the additional products will be about 2.00 crores. Unit will use good faith efforts to employ local people from the nearby villages depending upon the requirement and availability of skilled & un-skilled manpower. An added benefit to the proposed project will result in considerable growth of stimulating the industrial and commercial activities in the state. The process and activities related to the project applied are not diminishing the objectives of the development in the surrounding. The project proponent team is qualifies and experienced for such product manufacturing and the technical consultants are confident of the project launching in the said location. There is no process effluent generation from any of the product. The project will have the products those are clean in process and will not create the negative impact on the surrounding environment and hence, we propose for the approval. 28
