3 Situation Beacon Farm is beautifully situated on the southern fringe of the North York Moors National Park, with wonderful coastal views that extend to the Scarborough Castle to the south. Surroundings are predominantly rural with undulating grassland and arable fields interspersed with attractive woodlands and shelterbelts rising in the distance towards the North York Moors. The farm has good transport connections, being only 5 miles from Scarborough railway station which connects to York and the wider railway network and the East Coast mainline. From York some services to London Kings Cross take less than 2 hours. The A64 trunk road (5.5 miles to the south) also provides good access to York, the A1 and Leeds. The farm is perfectly located for hunting with the Staintondale or Derwent Hunts. Racing can be enjoyed at York, Beverley, Thirsk or Wetherby all within 1.5 hour s drive. The highly regarded Ganton Hall Golf Course is under 30 minutes drive. 8 Land The farmland lies in a ring fenced block surrounding the farmstead and many fields have direct access to Beacon Brow Road. The land gently undulates but for the most part is relatively flat at around 100 metres above sea level, rising to the woodland on the southern fringe at around 150 metres above sea level. The land is classified as Grade 3 under the MAFF Provisional Agricultural Land Classification. Soils are predominantly from the Salop series a fine loamy soil over clay soil. This soil type rises to meet the Rivington 1 series, described as a loamy soil over sandstone. Both are common to the locality and described as suitable for cereals and grassland. The farm has historically supported a mixture of grassland and cereal crops.
